Happy Thursday! Here is your Thursday song link:

I think this is everyone's favorite!

Today I am going to guide you through practicing some social/communication skills with your student. As I put together next week's packet I will provide a sheet that covers: feelings, asking about others, thinking about others, problem solving, idioms/expressions and read and retell.

Social skills are crucial to success in the classroom and the community. They also are essential to interpersonal success -- to friendships. We teach social skills in the classroom so why not try at home!

So today let's focus on one skill from each area.

1. Feelings: Find pictures of people that look curious. What does it mean to be curious?

2. Asking about others: Ask a member of your family about their favorite food. Say, "What is your favorite food?" Then make a comment about their answer (Example: "I like pizza too!") or ask a related question (Example: "What kind of pizza do you like?").

3. Thinking about others: Think of a family member at home. Are they kind? If you aren't sure, watch them at home. What do they do that is kind?

4. Problem Solving: You just lost a board game at home. How do you feel? How should you act and what should you say?

5. Idioms/Expressions: What does "rise and shine" mean in the following sentence: "Rise and shine! It's going to be a big day!" Make up your own sentence using rise and shine.

6. Social Communication in stories: Read and retell a story. Answer the following questions:

How were the characters feeling in the story?

What was the problem in the story?

Was the problem solved? How?

As always, please reach out if you need anything and don't forget to sign up for a time to video conference. Directions are on yesterday's blog. Love and miss you!
